Domain Name Registration: Starting on the Right Foot
Registering a domain name is usually the first step for most internet marketing campaigns. Sadly, it’s also one of the almost overlooked. Most people agree that you should choose a domain name that is short or easy to remember. Well, that’s pretty subjective isn’t it. Here are some pointers we keep in mind when choosing domain names for clients.
- Local vs .com Domains
Since search engines are taking geographic location into consideration when displaying results, you’d want to consider getting a local domain for precise targeting. Generally, if half of your clients are locals, definitely go for a .sg domain. - .com vs .biz & .net & etc.
If rentacar.com has been taken, resist the urge to register rentacar.net or anything else for that matter. Chances are whenever your clients want to go to your site, they’ll forget and land up at your competitor’s page. - Sensible Domains Beat Short but Meaningless Ones
We see many businesses register abbreviated domains for the sake of keeping it short. We think it is easier for clients to remember full words that make sense; go for tripletalentholdings.com rather than tthldg.com. The former may take a bit more typing, but it beats having a potential client try his luck at guessing and eventually giving up.
