  • the average user has 126 followers
  • only 20% of its traffic comes through the Twitter website, the rest is assumed to come from 3rd party applications
  • Twitter usage peaked at about 3000 tweets per second during President Obama’s inauguration

These facts were presented along Weaver’s talk at QCon 2009 to explain the architecture of the system.
